The incidence of kidney cancer, which is predominantly seen in men, is also increased in women. Anadolu Health Center Urooncology Center Director Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “According to studies conducted in recent years, obesity also causes kidney cancer. In addition, patients with a family history of kidney cancer and those receiving routine hemodialysis treatment for chronic kidney failure are also at risk for the development of kidney cancer.

Treatment success is quite high in kidney cancers that are detected at an early stage with regular health checks. Anadolu Medical Center Urooncology Center Director Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “Laparoscopic surgery and robot-assisted surgery are successfully applied in the surgical treatment of kidney cancer, both in kidney-sparing surgeries and in surgeries in which the kidney is completely removed.”

Underlining that most of the patients diagnosed with kidney cancer do not have any symptoms or complaints, Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “Masses that are detected incidentally as a result of ultrasonography, MR and tomography, which are mostly performed due to other ailments and complaints, usually occur at an early stage and as small kidney masses. In patients presenting at a more advanced stage, complaints such as bleeding in the urine, weight loss, fatigue and bone pain are predominantly seen. Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “In addition, ultrasonography and radiological examinations such as IVP can be performed for the evaluation of the kidney and surrounding organs. Ways to prevent kidney cancer

Urooncology Center Director Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “Obesity should be avoided, a balanced diet and regular exercise should be done. Hemodialysis patients should have their medical imaging done periodically in terms of a possible kidney mass.

Treatment is planned according to the course of the disease.

Stating that the stage of the disease is an important factor for a correct planning in the treatment phase, Assoc. Dr. İlker Tinay said, “In patients who do not have any metastases and present with only a kidney mass, it can be decided to remove only the mass or remove the kidney completely, depending on the location and size of the mass. For patients with metastases, it would be appropriate to plan the treatment with surgical removal of the kidney and smart drug therapy for metastases, depending on the metastasis density and the general condition of the patient. Underlining that the treatment options have increased in recent years, especially in the treatment of metastatic disease, Assoc. Dr. Tinay said, “The use of drugs developed with the principle of targeted therapy, and finally, the use of drugs that regulate the immune system, take place in daily practices. Moreover, all these developments bring satisfactory results in the treatment of the disease.
