Bartın University (BARU) is going to the region to analyze the structural changes in buildings, highways, state main roads and bridges after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Bartın University (BARÜ) Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design Civil Engineering Department Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Selçuk Baş is going to the region as part of TÜBİTAK's “1002-C Natural Disasters Focused Field Study Emergency Support Project”. Assoc. Dr. Baş will conduct damage assessments and structural assessments of highways and bridges on state main roads in the disaster-affected areas. Assoc. Dr. As part of another project, Baş will prepare a report by focusing on the buildings in the region.

In addition, Research Assistant from BARU Civil Engineering Department. See. Yaşar Erbaş will take part as a researcher in the project titled “Corner Failure Mechanism and Major Damage Modes of Damaged Masonry Structures in Malatya Province in the 6 February 2023 Earthquake”.

Structure and ground damage, building dynamics, earthquake behavior…

Providing information about the scientific studies to be done, Assoc. Dr. Baş said, “It is aimed to make damage assessments and structural assessments of highways and bridges on state main roads in the earthquake-affected areas. In addition to the structural determinations and evaluations to be made, in terms of geotechnical engineering, ground-based damages at the bridge piers and the surrounding area will be detected and reported. In addition, within the scope of another project that I was involved in as a researcher, buildings will be scrutinized and a detailed analysis will be made.”

Scientific evaluations will be submitted to TUBITAK and related institutions.

BARU Department of Civil Engineering Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Baş, in the project titled "Structural Status and Damage Determination Studies of Bridge Structures in the Region After the Kahramanmaraş-Pazarcık (Mw=6) and Kahramanmaraş-Elbistan (Mw=2023) Earthquakes dated February 7.7, 7.6, by Field Observations" from Kırıkkale University, Assoc.
