Two weeks are left for the Second Century Economics Congress to be held in İzmir between 15-21 February 2023. In global conditions where the need for redefinition of economic philosophy and policies is increasing day by day, the Second Century Economics Congress will be held in İzmir again with the courage taken from its glorious past a hundred years ago. The congress, hosted by the Izmir Planning Agency (İZPA), affiliated to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, will be a decisive and long-term step towards building the Turkey of the future. The Economics Congress of the Second Century, which is a civil initiative, will be held between 15-21 February 2023 as a meeting of common sense on the way of building the future exactly one hundred years after the first congress.
Within the framework of the congress preparatory meetings that started in August, nine stakeholder meetings were held, consisting of representatives of farmers, workers and industrialists, traders and craftsmen. Three draft declarations were shared with the public following the meetings attended by the representatives of 180 institutions with a wide representation capability across Turkey.
The second phase of the congress consists of expert meetings. More than 4 scientists, academics, civil society and leading figures from the business world, who attended the expert meetings to be completed on February 200, evaluated the draft declarations prepared by the stakeholder groups.
The main congress will bring together respected scientists and experts from Turkey and the world. Nearly 70 speakers will make comprehensive presentations on the economic policies necessary for the construction of a more just and free future. Names such as Vandana Shiva, Bob Geldof, Michio Kaku and Andrew McAfee will give talks on building the future.
The final text of the Second Century Economics Congress will take its final form as a result of the negotiations of the representatives of farmers, workers and industrialists, traders and craftsmen throughout the congress. The final declaration of the congress is expected to play a historical role in determining the economic policies of the second century of the Republic of Turkey.
The program of the Second Century Economics Congress, which will last for seven days, includes main sessions, delegate meetings, forums and artistic activities. During the congress, politicians and mayors will come together at different events.
On Saturday, February 18, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerThe mayors of the political parties that make up the Nation Alliance will present their contributions to the Economics Congress of the Second Century.
In the evening of the same day, a meeting will be held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center with the vice presidents of the Nation Alliance responsible for economic policies, on the text of the common policies.
Six leaders of the Nation Alliance will each attend the Second Century Economics Congress on Sunday, February 19, to give a speech on the Turkey of the future.
In the main sessions, there will be comprehensive speeches by Turkey's leading scientists, especially economists.
On Tuesday, February 21, the final declaration of the congress will be presented to the public by voting by the delegates.
