Konya Science Center, which serves under the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, helps earthquake victims who were hosted in Konya after the disaster of the century to overcome the trauma of earthquake more easily by organizing science shows, sky observations, various scientific activities and excursions.
Konya Science Center, Turkey's first and largest science center supported by TÜBİTAK, brought to the city by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, gives morale to earthquake survivors in Konya with its scientific activities.
Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that after the disasters on 6 February, they hosted many earthquake survivors from the cities devastated by the earthquake, together with their families, in the best way possible in Konya.
Mayor Altay said, “As Konya, we have been carrying out very important works in Hatay for days to heal the wounds of the earthquake, while we are standing by our guests we host in our city. Our Konya Science Center does not stay idle in order to ensure that the children who come to our city after the earthquake can overcome the trauma of the earthquake more easily. For our guests who come from the earthquake zone and stay in the dormitories, our personnel who have received psychological counseling training; science shows, telescope sky observations, astronomy presentations and various events are organized. At the end of the entertaining programs, we also distribute various gifts to our children and make them happy.”
Noting that the students who came from the earthquake region and were placed in schools in Konya were introduced to the Konya Science Center together with their schools, Mayor Altay said, “These students also participate in excursions, workshops and planetarium shows. In order for our children to be able to come to the Science Center with their families, we take them from their dormitories on weekends by shuttles and enable them to participate in the activities organized in our center.
