World champion national athlete İsmail Nezir was awarded as the best athlete of the season at the Balkan Athletics Gala in Athens.
Young athlete İsmail Nezir, who won a gold medal after his historic performance at the World U20 Athletics Championships in Cali last summer, and stood on the podium with his 4×400 team at the Mediterranean Games, was named the Rising Star of the Year in the 2022 Balkans. The award, given to the best athlete among the Balkan countries under the age of 20, was given by Fatih Çintimar, President of the Turkish Athletics Federation, who is also the ABAF Co-President.
The young athlete Nezir, who was honored at the gala held in Athens, stated that he was very proud to receive such an award, and that his aim was to continue his debut in the new season and improve his ranks.
At the 2022 Balkan Athletics Gala, the Athlete of the Year awards went to European champion Serbian star Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta in Munich and Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou. The Rising Star award for women went to 17-year-old Serbian talent Angelina Topic in high jump.
