Bursa Climate Change Cooperation Declaration was prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality in order to exhibit an effective struggle with the participation of all public institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations, business world, academic and professional chambers in Bursa. The declaration, which was prepared for the purpose of carrying Bursa to the future in a healthy way, was announced to the public at the meeting held in Atatürk Congress and Culture Center Hüdavendigar Hall.

“We have no excuses, this city is ours”

Speaking at the meeting attended by Bursa Governor Yakup Canbolat, 17 district mayors and their deputy mayors, public institutions, BTSO and universities and all parties to the issue, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that climate change has become a growing crisis not only for Turkey but also for the world. . Expressing that the successful fight against climate change in Bursa will be possible with a close cooperation between different institutions and sectors, President Aktaş said, “With the Bursa Climate Change Cooperation Declaration, we aimed for all institutions and organizations in our city to declare their determination to fight against climate change. With the signed declaration text, all representatives of public institutions and organizations in Bursa will have declared that they are a part of the solution against climate change. We have no excuses, this city is ours. We are in these tasks today. As yesterday, other people will be in these duties tomorrow as well. But the city is ours. Under normal circumstances, we will all complete our lives in this city. For this reason, everyone needs to fulfill their responsibilities for a healthy future.”

An example of a model struggle

Bursa Governor Yakup Canbolat also emphasized that Turkey is among the risk group countries in terms of the potential effects of global climate change. Noting that climate change is a global problem that can lead to very serious environmental and socioeconomic consequences, Canbolat said, “We are all aware of this: Although natural resources are sufficient for human beings, they are not permanent and nature's ability to renew itself is limited. If we are talking about sustainability, as decision makers we have to meet the needs of the present generation 'without jeopardizing the needs of future generations'. For this, the development in every field must be realized with the least damage without 'destroying the environment'. This is only possible with social awareness. I hope that the Bursa Declaration on Combating Climate Change will be beneficial locally for our Bursa, and for our country in general, and to set an example of struggle.”

After the presentation of Yıldız Odaman Cindoruk, Head of the Environmental Protection and Control Department of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, on "The Works of the Metropolitan Municipality to Combat Climate Change" and the Environmental Expert Emine Çelebioğlu on "Turkey's International and National Scale Climate Change Studies", President Aktaş and Governor Canbolat signed the declaration for the first time.
