Hearing test screening was conducted for health teams and primary school students in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa. According to the statement made by the Şanlıurfa Provincial Health Directorate, hearing screening in Turkey is performed in the school environment in the first year of primary education, within the framework of determined protocols, in the field using scanning audiometry devices. Children with suspected hearing loss as a result of screening are referred to otolaryngologists in the province. Within the scope of the program, 61 percent of school-age children in Suruç district were reached.

Suruç District Health Directorate Hearing screening officer Dr. Emine Büdüş said that within the scope of the hearing screening program for school-age children, 3 thousand 641 students out of 2 thousand 250 students have been screened so far.

Stating that they do a hearing test first, Büdüş said, “We do the second test 48 hours later for our children who fail the first hearing test. As a result of the Hearing Test, we refer our children who have hearing doubt to the necessary places. We have completed 61 percent of the program we have done. We aim to reach 60 percent within 100 days.” said.
