Nejat Kök, one of the former presidents of the Turkish Athletics Federation, international athletics statistician and trainer, passed away in Aydın.

Nejat Kök, who spent more than 50 years of his life serving in athletics, was the president of the Turkish Athletics Federation in the 1974-75 period, and served on the technical and administrative boards of TAF for years, passed away at the age of 83 in Aydın.

Nejat Kök, who also served as the official statistician of the European Athletics Union for many years, made a great contribution to athletics by publishing the Turkish Athletics Yearbook in the 2000s. Kök also informed the public for years with the articles he wrote in various newspapers, especially in Cumhuriyet, and the comments he made on TRT broadcasts at the Olympic and World Athletics Championships.

Retiring from METU Civil Engineering Department, where he taught for years, Kök had been receiving treatment for a while.

TAF President Fatih Çintimar, who issued a message on the death of Nejat Kök, said, “We lost a very valuable brother who served athletics. We also had the opportunity to work with him in his last years. I wish God's mercy. He made great contributions to us in the field of statistics.”

The funeral of Nejat Kök will be buried with a ceremony to be held on Saturday, December 31 in the Karabağlar district of İzmir, where he was born.
