A New Integration Training Program Will Be Applied to Students

Within the scope of school adaptation training to be held by the Ministry of National Education this year, a new integration education program will be applied to pre-school, primary school first grade and secondary school fifth grade students.

Due to the start of the 2022-2023 academic year, the Ministry of National Education has prepared a new guidance and adaptation training program to be implemented for students who will start preschool, primary and secondary school this year. The program, which will be implemented for students who will start the first grade of primary school with pre-school education on September 5, will end on September 9. The program to be implemented for the fifth grade students of secondary and imam hatip secondary schools will start on September 12 and continue until September 16.

It is aimed to strengthen the cooperation of children, families and teachers

In this new application, which will be implemented by the Ministry of National Education, it is aimed to strengthen the cooperation between children, families and teachers, and to complete the adaptation processes of children to school in an easy and trouble-free manner. In this context, face-to-face information meetings will be held for families by all preschool and primary school first grade teachers on September 5, when the integration training will begin. According to the implementation schedule of the events to be organized, the 'My Child is at School' presentation will be made only for families on the first day. School management, classroom teachers and guidance counselors will be present at this presentation. On the second day, with the participation of the school administration and classroom teachers, families with their children will be introduced to the internal and external environment of the school in groups. On the third, fourth and fifth days, the children will participate in the integration week activities with their classroom teachers.

Significant awareness will be created with the participation of parents

In the programs that parents will also attend, teachers will share information about the school environment, educational activities, activities and achievements. Parents will come to the school in groups with their children in different time periods and get information from the teachers about the interior and exterior of the school, such as the classes, guidance service, library, school garden, entry-exit and classroom rules. Children, on the other hand, will have the opportunity to socialize with all their classmates by being involved in the process at the whole class level in the last two days of the integration training.

Advice to families from MEB

On the other hand, the Ministry of National Education is also in the digital environment (tegmmaterial.eba.gov.tr/, https://www.eba.gov.tr/ and mathematics.eba.gov.tr/ internet addresses) prepared “school adaptation guides” for families, in which the details of the school adaptation process are shared. Some of the advice and information for families in the guides are as follows:

  • Preschool education is a programmed and systematic education process that aims to enable children to reveal and develop their potential at the highest level by being supported in the areas of movement, cognitive, social and emotional, language and self-care. Do not deprive your child of this process.
  • When talking about school, it should be emphasized that “School is a special place designed for children, where activities are held for children to enjoy, games are played and school is a pleasant place to make new friends”.
  • If the child has any adjustment problems, the child should not compare with other children in the class, and statements that will harm the child's self (For example, "If you cry, they call you a bad boy, they will not take you to school." "They will take you to the class where babies go.") should be avoided.
  • Children learn by experimenting, learn to adapt to their peers, learn to achieve results by making mistakes, solve problems by questioning and recognize individual learning methods. “Are you bored or scared at school?” Do not ask questions using negative statements such as:
  • Be patient.
  • Come and go to school with your child.
  • Accept your child as they are.
  • Do not make your child feel your anxiety.
  • Praise his good behavior, appreciate it.
  • Make him feel important and valuable, express your love to him.
  • Don't make the goodbye process at school too long or too short.
  • Do not scare the child with the teacher and the school.
  • It is important that children are brought to school on time and picked up on time. The level of anxiety may increase in children who are brought to school at different times than other children and taken at different times.
  • It is expected that the child will experience adaptation difficulties in the first days of the preschool education institution. While some children have adjustment problems when they first start school, some may start well and react after a certain period of time, while others adapt to school very easily. all this is natural
