They are always ready for duty in dark waters, lakes and sea. Thanks to the trainings they received, the “Frog Men” of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department were trained to save lives by diving in all weather conditions and water environments.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has one of the most equipped and modern fire brigades in Turkey, has added a new one to its training in order to respond quickly and accurately to underwater accidents and drownings. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Water Search and Rescue diver teams ran the 3 meters in less than 14 minutes after a tough training, showed their skills in 35 push-ups per minute, 40 sit-ups, 4 pull-ups and 150 meters underwater in less than three and a half minutes and received the "Frog Man" certificate. . Izmir Fire Brigade Frogmen, who revived their training with a drill in Izmir Bay, took their breath away. The Frogmen have been trained to save lives by diving in lakes, rivers, streams, seas, and all natural and artificial aquatic environments.

Raised to international standards

Erman Karademir, Fire Brigade Search and Rescue and Disaster Affairs Branch Directorate, Underwater and Surface Search and Rescue Administration Supervisor, stated that they participated in the "Frog Man" training, which lasted for 8 weeks, at the Underwater Training Center Command of the Naval Forces Command in Beykoz, Istanbul. “We passed a serious test that measures both our psychological and physical resilience. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality diver team has now reached international standards with this training. The basis of the course is not only diving training but also sportive competence. There are four main factors that affect us divers underwater. These are depth, bottom time, water temperature and body condition. One of these factors is one hundred percent body condition. We give importance to sports to keep our condition high. We do our training on certain days of the week without interruption," he said.

Regularly education

Underwater search and rescue diver teams start training in the early morning hours three days a week in the pool located in the Buca Social Life Campus of the Metropolitan Municipality. After walking track, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and swimming skills, he does intervention work for underwater events according to different disaster scenarios.
