The KAPLAN MT Medium Class Tank Development Project was signed by an interstate agreement between the Presidency of Defense Industries and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. In 2015, with a cooperation agreement signed between Indonesian DG Defense Potential and the Presidency of Defense Industries, it was decided to develop 2 prototype medium tanks. Within the scope of the KAPLAN MT (HARIMAU) Medium Weight Class Tank Mass Production Long-Term Cooperation Agreement signed in 2019 between FNSS Defense Systems and PT Pindad, FNSS completed the production of the first batch of vehicles with mass production configuration. The vehicles developed within the scope of the project, in which FNSS successfully applied the technology transfer model to PT Pindad, were delivered by the President of the Republic of Turkey Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, representatives from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Defense, Indonesian Land Forces Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Agus Subiyanto, Indonesian Ministry of Defense and PT Pindad representatives with the “Completion Ceremony of Mass Production of KAPLAN MT Medium Class Tank Platform” and PT Pindad management, Indonesia It was presented to representatives of the Army and the Ministry of Defense.
After the prototype development studies, FNSS successfully completed the tough endurance and firing tests in Indonesia. With the KAPLAN MT, the first medium-class tank tested and approved by an army in the world, FNSS signed a joint production contract for a total of 2019 vehicles at the end of 18, and completed the design perfection studies carried out with the participation of end users in 2020. The production and supply works of the parts and systems to be provided by PT Pindad for the vehicles to be produced in Indonesia in 2021 were completed, and these parts and subsystems were exported to Indonesia as tool kits and delivered to FNSS' partner PT Pindad. As of the beginning of 2022, FNSS successfully completed its project activities in Turkey and made the vehicles produced in Turkey ready for presentation to the customer. The remaining vehicles will be produced in Indonesia by PT Pindad, with the technology transfer model successfully implemented by FNSS, within the scope of the project.
While FNSS completed its design perfection studies in a short time and completed its production activities in Turkey after acceptance, it once again demonstrated its export experience and success with the successful technology transfer model. The KAPLAN MT project stands out in that it is Turkey's first export project in the Tank Class, which was concluded within the framework of the Defense Industry Cooperation Agreements signed between Indonesia and Turkey, and was concluded within the scope of the foreseen calendar.
