Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum stated that most of the preparations for the Climate Law have been completed and that it is expected to be issued within this year.

Minister Murat Kurum, recalling the bilateral meeting they had with COP17 President Alok Sharma prior to the "Green Finance Conference" held in cooperation with the United Kingdom and Turkey on March 26, said that Sharma provided significant support for Turkey's access to climate finance.

Reminding that 3 billion 157 million dollars of support was provided in the memorandum of understanding signed on Turkey's access to green financing, the Institution stated that this financing would be spent on the fight against climate change within 3 years.

Expressing that they talked to all sectors and young people about the fight against climate change, the institution said, “We will and have to ensure adaptation to climate change. Our resources are not endless. Hopefully, we will all try to carry out this process as a whole.” said.

Stating that within the scope of adaptation to climate change, Iller Bank General Directorate has additional supports received from the World Bank, French Development Agency, JICA and other financial institutions, the Institution continued as follows:

“Let our municipalities and local governments prepare their projects. Let them submit it to our General Directorate of Iller Bank. Within the framework of equity, we will be supporting projects that will serve our 81 provinces and 84 million citizens in order of priority, and with these supports, we will ensure local development and harmony. Our local governments can prepare their projects and apply to our General Directorate of Iller Bank, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. We will evaluate them together. The decisions we will take will reveal both adaptation to climate change, savings and new resources on behalf of our provinces.”

Council decisions will be announced in April

Pointing out the importance of the decisions they took at the Climate Council held in Konya, the Minister Institution said, "adaptation to climate change, making projects to reduce the effects of climate change locally, national energy policy, ensuring micro-mobility in transportation, fair migration, industry and technology". He stated that many topics were evaluated under the headings and 217 suggestions were made.

The institution stated that the negotiations regarding the clarification of the date are continuing and that this is planned in April after meeting with the relevant ministries.

Minister Murat Kurum also noted the following regarding the content of the Climate Law:

“Increasing the amount of renewable energy in energy and what its obligations are on a sectoral basis over the years, the target we have set in transportation and supporting those who invest in line with this target, providing additional financial resources, perhaps including tax advantages, penalizing those who produce excess emissions related to the Emissions Trading System. Many issues such as encouraging and supporting those who produce less emissions, increasing the amount of green areas, projects of local governments in terms of adaptation to climate change, the support we will give to the industry sector and technology in industry and technology, the expectations of our youth and women, and the expectations of cities are the basis of the Climate Law. will constitute.”

“We will be preparing a good law”

Expressing that they want what needs to be done within the scope of combating climate change with the law to become a necessity, the Institution said, “In other words, everyone should know what to do in line with the next target by years. The basis of the law actually emerges both in the Council, in our negotiations and in the negotiations with other countries, and we will be preparing a good law by collecting these data. We expect to complete it this year. Most of it has been completed. Hopefully, this year, we want to make this arrangement with our deputies in consultation with our Assembly, with the support of our Supreme Assembly.” made its assessment.
