Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, by signing another first, brought together the Sports Federations in the Capital with the “Sports Workshop” it organized. In the workshop hosted by the ABB Youth and Sports Services Department, sports organizations planned to be held in Ankara in 2022 and later and joint projects were discussed. 41 representatives from 53 Sports Federation attended the workshop.

While Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its support to sports and athletes, it also aims to produce joint projects with the parties for future sports organizations.

With this aim, the Metropolitan Municipality, which gives importance to 'common mind' in order to support sports in Ankara, has signed another first. The Youth and Sports Services Department organized a “Sports Workshop” with sports federations to discuss sports organizations and joint projects to be held in Başkent in 2022 and beyond.

COMMON GOAL: THE FUTURE VISION OF THE BAŞKENT IN SPORTS

41 representatives from 53 Sports Federations attended the workshop, where subjects such as increasing sports activities in the capital, what needs to be done to organize national and international tournaments in Ankara, encouraging young people to sports, realizing sports organizations and joint projects were discussed.

Speaking at the workshop hosted by ABB, Head of Youth and Sports Services Mustafa Artunç underlined that they will continue to support sports activities within the framework of opportunities, and said, “This is the first time we are organizing such an organization in Turkey. We listen to their wishes and desires to develop cooperation with all Sports Federations. We try to share with them the contributions we can make. In this sense, we organized a workshop for two days with our Federations. We will continue to organize our events to support Turkish sports and athletes.”

FEDERATION REPRESENTATIVES SUPPLIED THEIR REQUESTS

Noting that there are facility problems in many branches in Ankara, representatives of Sports Federations conveyed their demands to the Metropolitan Municipality one by one.

It was decided to strengthen the cooperation between the Metropolitan Municipality and Sports Federations in order to determine the future sports vision of the capital and to produce joint solutions.

Participating in the workshop, the Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation, Nihal Worker, stated that Ankara has a supporter who has acquired a sports culture and can act together, and made the following assessments:

“Ankara is a beautiful city. We play volleyball competitions in Ankara, sold out. We can't find any vacancies. Ankara is a city where we can find spectators when giant screens are set up not only in the hall but also outside. Frankly, we are very happy to compete in Ankara. We came second in Europe in 2019, Vakıfbank came first in the World Clubs Championship, Fenerbahçe came in third again. Hopefully, our team will achieve significant success in the Nations League, which will start on May 31 this year. It is a great advantage for us that all Sports Federations are present at the workshop, express their opinions and we find a very constructive management in front of us. From here, both the federations and the Metropolitan Municipality can produce very positive results.”

E-Sports Federation Ankara Provincial Representative Yunus Argan emphasized that the realization of the workshop is an opportunity to collaborate with municipalities on behalf of Turkish sports and said, “It is a first for Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to bring together the representatives of all sports branches and organize such an organization. I find this workshop very meaningful and valuable. We held various events on online platforms at METU and Ankara University. As the Ankara Representative Office of the E-Sports Federation, we think that we will further crown this with the projects we will carry out jointly with the Metropolitan Municipality in the next period. We think that we can reach youth if we can transform these events into a corporate structure with a large structure like the Metropolitan Municipality in the next period.”

“WE WILL TRY TO MAKE ANKARA THE CAPITAL OF SPORTS”

Expressing that they are very happy that the Metropolitan Municipality listens to the ideas of the federation representatives and listens to their problems, Chess Federation Technical Committee Coordinator Fırat Yalçın said, "We think that we will carry out many national and international activities in the near future with the support of our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, with our number of licensed athletes exceeding one million. On the basis of athletes, I think that our municipalities will provide significant support to our athletes by taking part in every branch. As far as I saw at the meeting, I saw that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality would provide these supports in a very sincere manner.”

Serhat Aydın, Secretary General of the Modern Pentathlon Federation, who stated that they had participated in many joint projects with the Metropolitan Municipality, said:

“We would like to thank the Youth and Sports Services Department for organizing such an organization. As Sports Federations, together with our Metropolitan Municipality, we will try to make Ankara the capital of sports as well.”
