The last deck on the Gulf Crossing Bridge will be put today: The final deck of the İzmit Gulf Crossing Suspension Bridge, which will be the fourth largest suspension bridge in the world, will be installed at a ceremony expected to be attended by President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu.

The work on the Izmit Bay Crossing Bridge, which is the biggest leg of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway Project, which will reduce the transportation time between Istanbul and Izmir from 9 hours to 3,5 hours, has come to an end.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu are expected to attend the ceremony to be held due to the mounting of the last deck on the bridge, which is described as the neck of the Izmit Bay.

With the build-operate-transfer model, the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Motorway (including Izmit Gulf Crossing and Connection Roads), 384 km highway and 49 mileage route will be the total length of 433 kilometers.

The project starts with a bridge junction (2,5 × 2 lanes) to be formed approximately 5 kilometers from Gebze Köprülü Junction on the Anatolian Highway to Ankara direction and ends at the existing Bus Terminal Junction on İzmir Ring Road.

The bridge, which has a tower height of 252 meters, a deck width of 35,93 meters, a middle span of 550 meters and a total length of 2 meters, is 682 percent of the northern and southern anchor blocks of the bridge, which is ranked 4th among the world's largest medium span suspension bridges. i complete it.

The assembly of the last deck on the bridge on Thursday, April 21, will be done with a ceremony that President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu are expected to attend.

It is planned to complete the installation works at the end of the month, to construct superstructures (insulation and asphalt) and to finish the other works and to open the bridge to traffic at the end of May.
