It has been announced that the open-ended strike started yesterday by the Train Engineers' Union (GDL) in Germany will be ended at 19.00 local time, after the agreement between the employer and the union on mediation.
GDL appointed the Left Party Prime Minister of Thuringia State Bodo Ramelow, and DB appointed former Social Democratic Party (SPD) Brandenburg State Prime Minister Matthias Platzeck as mediators.
Accordingly, the mediators will try to find solutions by discussing the existing disputes between the union and the employer from May 27 to June 17.
During this period no action will be taken.
GDL is demanding about a percent increase in 5 wages for machinists and less work at 1 hours per week. GDL also wants to limit overtime and improve pension regulation. Weekend talks between the union and the employer failed.
The machinists had stopped work eight times after September last year. GDL last went on a 4-hour strike on May 10-138.
On the other hand, with the new collective bargaining law to be discussed in the Bundestag in the coming months, the powers of small unions such as GDL will be reduced and collective bargaining negotiations will be carried out from a single source.
