920 meters reached in Eurasia Tunnel

In the Eurasia Tunnel, 920 meters have been reached: In the Eurasia Tunnel Project (Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing), which is expected to reduce between Kazlıçeşme and Göztepe, it is reported that 15 meters have been reached and seismic gaskets are installed to increase the earthquake resistance.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Lütfi Elvan, examined the works on the Eurasia Tunnel Project, which will connect the Asian and European continents with a road tunnel under the sea floor for the first time.

Davutoğlu received information from Elvan and Chairman of Yapı Merkezi Holding Ersin Arıoğlu, ATAŞ CEO Seok Jae Seo and ATAŞ Deputy General Manager Mustafa Tanrıverdi.

Prime Minister Davutoğlu spoke English with ATAŞ CEO Seo after his statement.

Davutoğlu, who said to Seok Jae Seo, "You should learn Turkish," received the answer "I am learning", wittyly, "When the project is completed, we will speak Turkish. I will test you. ”
- SPECIAL SEISMIC SEALS WILL PROTECT AGAINST EARTHQUAKE

According to the information received from the authorities, 920 meters were left behind during the excavations carried out with the tunnel boring machine specially designed for the project. In addition, since the Bosphorus is located in an earthquake risk zone, seismic protection design is applied at the highest level in the Eurasia Tunnel Project. In this context, in order to increase the earthquake resistance of the tunnel, high-tech seismic gaskets produced in Japan are installed in the tunnel.

The assembly of the first seismic gasket was completed at 852 meters. The second gasket will be mounted at 380 meters. Seismic seals will prevent structural damage to the tunnel, which passes under the sea floor, both soft and rock ground.
- PROGRESSING 8-10 METERS PER DAY

The tunneling machine, which started to work on the Anatolian side, is progressing an average of 25-8 meters per day by digging the soil under the 10 meter and forming the inner walls.

In addition to the tunneling works under the Bosphorus, efforts are underway to improve and expand the existing roads on the European and Asian sides, to make underpasses and overpasses and pedestrian crossings suitable for the use of disabled people.

In the Eurasia Tunnel Project, occupational safety rules are also fully implemented, and regular trainings are provided on this subject.

  • TWO SIDES OF ISTANBUL STRAIT WILL BE CONNECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME BY HIGHWAY TUNNEL

The project will connect the Asian and European sides with a road tunnel that passes under the sea floor. The Eurasia Tunnel, which will serve on the Kazlıçeşme-Göztepe line, where vehicle traffic is intensive in Istanbul, covers a total of 14,6 kilometers of routes. While the two-storey tunnel to be constructed under the sea floor, 5,4 km of the project will be constructed, road expansion and improvement will be carried out on a total of 9,2 km on the European and Asian sides.

On the route where traffic is very busy in Istanbul, the journey time will be reduced from 100 minutes to 15 minutes, and a safe and comfortable journey will be provided. ATAŞ, which will carry out the design and construction of the project, will undertake the operation of the tunnel for 24 years and 5 months.

No expenditure from public resources is made for project investment. The Eurasia Tunnel will be transferred to the public with the completion of the operation period. The project will be realized with a financing of approximately 1.3 billion dollars with the build-operate-transfer model. An international loan of 960 million dollars was provided for the investment. 285 million dollars equity was provided by Yapı Merkezi and SK E&C.
