The Bosphorus is getting more and more dangerous every year in terms of the risks posed by the passing ship traffic. A century ago, only 3-4 thousand ships passed through our straits, now nearly 50 thousand crossings are made. This figure will reach 2050 thousand in 78 and 2070 thousand in 86. The Kanal Istanbul Project is necessary to prevent an environmental disaster that may occur in our straits. When the project is completed, the safety of life and property of people in and around the Bosphorus will be ensured, the historical, cultural and environmental texture of the Bosphorus will be preserved, while waiting and transit times will be reduced.”
