Tollbooths on highways are being removed! Free Passage System is Becoming Widespread

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that 106 of the 20 toll booths on the highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways affiliated to the Ministry have been converted into Free Passage System, and the 'Free Passage System' will be activated at the remaining 86 points, ensuring fast and safe passage of citizens.

In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu said, “In order to eliminate the traffic flow irregularity that occurs before toll booths due to the necessity of choosing toll lanes and speed reduction, we have launched the Free Passage System in Istanbul, which enables toll collection on highways without toll booths to ensure that traffic flow continues uninterrupted. By removing toll booths and canopies on road sections, we will ensure fast and safe passage for our citizens. "Later, we will implement SGS at all toll booths in Turkey," he said.

Uraloğlu said, “We said that traffic is one of the biggest problems in Istanbul, the apple of our eye, and we rolled up our sleeves to do whatever was necessary at this point. "We followed the traffic problem at the payment point at the toll booths and worked with our friends to see what we could do at this point and decided to activate the Free Passage System," he said.

Uraloğlu emphasized that they continue their field arrangement works and said:

“While we used to pass through toll booths to reduce the speed of traffic, we are now replacing this practice with free passage, thus preventing the traffic congestion in this region. "Free Passage System transformation works have been completed at 6 points across Turkey, 20 of which are in Istanbul. We plan to implement it in 5 more different toll booth areas of Istanbul in the coming days and we continue the tender preparations, thus aiming to speed up the traffic flow."

Uraloğlu said, “The points we transformed into the Free Passage System; We had toll booths in Mahmutbey, Çamlıca, 15 July Martyrs Bridge, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, Kurtköy and Şekerpınar. "The points that we will convert to 'Free Passage System' in the near future will be Gebze, Samandıra, Ispartakule, Avcılar and Hadımköy." he said.
