Dubai Metro New Route – 3 Consortium is preparing a proposal. The Blue Line is planned to connect 30 km of existing Red and Green lines. Approximately half of this distance, roughly 15,5 km, will be underground and the remaining 14,5 km will be elevated above ground.

This line is expected to consist of 7 stations, 14 of which are elevated stops. There will be 5 metro stations, including one interchange station and two elevated interchange stations that will connect to Centrepoint and Creek stations.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued a statement in October seeking expressions of interest from contractors for the design and construction of the line.

Here are the 3 consortiums that have bid so far:

1. Siemens (Germany)/Samsung C+T (South Korea)/Larsen & Toubro (India)/Wade Adams (UAE)
2. Alstom (France)/FCC (Spain)/China State Civil Engineering Corporation (China)
3. China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC – China)/China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC – China)

Three consortia, each of which is a railway vehicle supplier, have been preparing for this project since last year. While two of the teams remained unchanged, two teams changed for the Siemens team. Samsung replaced Belgium's Six Construct and Wade Adams replaced Alec Engineering.

The project is expected to cost several billion dollars to develop.

It is one of Dubai's largest upcoming infrastructure plans and requires international contractors to work in a joint venture with local partners.

The design and construction contractor will be responsible for all civil works, electromechanical works, railway vehicles and rail systems.

The contract also includes the supply of 28 driverless trains, the construction of a depot to accommodate up to 60 trains and the construction of all associated roads, facilities and public service routing works.

The Contractor will assist with maintenance and operations for the first 3 years after project completion.
