Continuing its environmentally friendly transportation investments for a sustainable city, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started the "European Mobility Week" celebrations this year with the theme "Save Your Future Energy" and the slogan "Discover Your City". A series of events were organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department within the scope of "European Mobility Week", celebrated every year between 16-22 September. Drawing attention to the importance of more active use of public spaces by citizens and the spread of sustainable transportation types, the opening of the week was attended by Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mustafa Özuslu, Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of Transportation Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Kadir Efe Oruç, artists, activists, Representatives of non-governmental organizations and many citizens attended.
Started using public transportation
For the European Mobility Week events, Cumhuriyet Boulevard in Alsancak was closed to traffic and turned into an event area. Panels and awareness workshops were held on the stage set up in the area. The guests arrived at Üçkuyular by taking the ferry from Bostanlı Ferry Pier, and then reached Kültürpark Lausanne Gate by tram. In the opening march, which started with the accompaniment of the band, the cortege reached Cumhuriyet Boulevard via Vasıf Çınar Boulevard.
