Do Children Have Headaches?
Children, like adults, can have a headache. At this point, some families think that their children will not have a headache, they just say this as an excuse not to go to school or not to do their lessons. They may miss important details at this point. They may cause some diseases to be undiagnosed.
What Are the Types of Headaches in Children?
In general, there are 5 types of headaches in children.
1-The first of these is acute headaches. Acute headaches are headaches that occur due to infection, trauma, intracranial bleeding or meningitis.
2- Episodic headaches are recurrent intermittent headaches. These are usually encountered in childhood migraine. 3-Chronic progressive headaches, on the other hand, are the type of headaches that we see in brain tumors that occupy space in the brain and that should be paid attention to.
4-Chronic, non-progressive headaches are of psychogenic origin.
5-Mix type headaches, on the other hand, progress by changing the character of existing chronic headaches.
Causes of Headache
Dr. Seral Back, ”The treatment of headaches depends on the underlying cause. Treatment varies for each cause. If painkillers are given without taking an appropriate history and without performing the necessary examinations, the clinical picture will be suppressed and the diagnosis will be changed. This can have dangerous consequences. When we look at the causes of headache in children, we see that 60 percent of them are acute infections. Apart from this, dental caries, ear infections, nasal congestion, refractive errors in the eyes, migraine, brain tumors that we call intracranial formations, fluid accumulation in the brain, hydrocephalus, traumas and brain hemorrhages are encountered. The characteristic of migraine headaches is that they are sensitive to noise and light, especially in children. The characteristic of migraine headache is that the pain is accompanied by sensitivity to sound and light.
