Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, supported by the United Nations and held in Malta this year, "International Livable Communities Awards" (LivCom), the richest and most powerful cities in the world, Abu Dhabi and Dubai from the United Arab Emirates, and Xin Yang from the People's Republic of China. competed with the cities and won the 3rd prize.
Successful urban planning projects implemented by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen continue to receive awards in many national and international fields.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality was held in Valletta, Malta, between 30 May and 2 June, jointly organized by the “LivCom Committee” and the United Nations International Institute on Aging (UN-INIA), and hosted by the Birgu Municipal Government and Malta University. Awards” (LivCom) was awarded the 3rd prize.
In the international competition held, local governments applied with their projects in which they introduced the best practices they realized under the theme of “Age Friendly and Livable Cities” aimed at developing more livable, resilient and sustainable societies.
In the competition, which included 24 cities and 22 projects from 33 countries that passed the pre-selection, Eskişehir was deemed worthy of the 3rd prize after the richest and most powerful cities in the world such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai from the United Arab Emirates and Xin Yang from the People's Republic of China.
Representing Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Head of Transportation Department, who made a presentation to the competition jury, Dr. Aytaç Ünverdi, Head of Social Services Department Hale Kargın and Project Specialist F. Özlem Önk received the award on behalf of Eskişehir at the ceremony held in Malta.
Making an evaluation about the award, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen said, “The projects we have carried out since 1999, on the one hand, not only create an Eskişehir in accordance with the principles of contemporary and universal urbanism, but also make the people living in it healthy, happy, equal and looking to the future with hope as much as possible. to get them to come.
