Izmir Metropolitan Municipality rolled up its sleeves to revive the historical axis between Konak and Kadifekale. Department of Construction Affairs completed 6 percent of the restoration of 35 historical buildings in Basmane. The “Hotels Project”, which will reveal the historical texture of the region, increase the attractiveness of the region and revive tourism, will be completed in 2024.

The arrangement works on the Konak-Kadifekale axis of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continue. Stating that they revived the historical street where different examples of 19th century traditional İzmir houses are located in Pazaryeri District in Basmane region, Head of Construction Affairs Department Murat Yenigül said: and reconstruction applications will eventually stand up again. Tevfik Paşa Mansion, one of the largest historical civil architecture examples of the Basmane region, will also be restored within the scope of this project, and these works, which will be functional according to today's needs, will serve the public as accommodation, cafes and restaurants.

History comes to light

Architect Dilara Yöndem Kayan, who works at the Historical Buildings Branch Directorate, said, “We remove the parts of the buildings that have lost their static bearing and manufacture them according to the approved project, based on the original texture. We've done our basic reinforcements. We will restore the buildings by renewing the wooden frameworks. When the project is completed, it will be made available to the people of Izmir as a cafe, restaurant, hotel and square.
