Ömer Çelik (Born on 15 June 1968, Adana) is a Turkish politician, journalist and former Minister of EU Affairs of Turkey. Çelik, who served as the Minister of Culture and Tourism between 2013 and 2015, entered the parliament for the first time as the Adana Deputy of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in the 2002 Turkish general elections. He took place as the Minister of European Union in the 24th Turkish Government established by Binali Yıldırım on 2016 May 65.
Ömer Çelik was born on June 15, 1968 in Adana, as the child of Yusuf Ziya and Dudu. He completed his high school education, which he started at Adana Motor Technical High School, at Adana Boys' High School. He graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Public Administration and completed his master's degree at the Social Sciences and Social Sciences Institute of the same university in 1998 with the thesis titled New aspects of pluralism in Turkey (Recent discussions on pluralist society model).
After graduating, Çelik worked as a political scientist and journalist for a while, worked as the Ankara Editor of Bilgi and Hikmet magazine and published articles in various magazines. He worked as a columnist in Yeni Yüzyıl, Yeni Şafak and Star newspapers.
He started his political career by joining the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). He entered the parliament for the first time in 2002 Turkey general elections as AK Party Adana deputy. He served as a member of the Turkish Group of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He entered the parliament as AK Party Adana deputy again in the 2007 Turkish general elections. He was elected as the President of the Türkiye-United States Parliamentary Friendship Group. He re-entered the parliament in the 2011 Turkish general elections. He served as the political advisor of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan between 2002 and 2013. In 2010, he was elected as the AK Party Deputy Chairman in charge of Foreign Relations.
With the cabinet reshuffle on January 24, 2013, Ertuğrul Günay, who was in the office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, was replaced.[8] Following Erdoğan's election as President in the 2014 Turkish presidential election, he again took place as the Minister of Culture and Tourism in the 62nd Turkish Government established by Ahmet Davutoğlu.
