Avant was not directly affiliated with the series in terms of working on the production side. The former philanthropist was the mother-in-law of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. This is where the link to the series comes into play.
According to Variety, she's dedicated herself to serving underserved and underrepresented communities for years. Avant died at the age of 1 on December 2021, 81, after being shot by a burglar in his home. Aariel Maynor, who was responsible, was sentenced to 190 years in prison. She is the wife of music producer Clarence Avant and the mother of political activist Nicole Avant, who is married to Sarandos. The news outlet shares that she has opened a children's and family center in her memory to continue her family's work and legacy.
