OBJECTIVE: TO PROTECT THE SPORTS OF TURKISH Wrestling AND THOSE WHO WORK IN Wrestling

In the committee, which was held with the aim of supporting Turkish wrestling sport and taking it further, and instilling sports awareness in future generations; National Wrestler, World and Olympic Champion Ahmet Ayık Wrestling Foundation President, ABB Cultural and Natural Heritage Department Head Bekir Ödemiş was elected a Member of the High Council of Honor.

Bekir Ödemiş, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, said:

“The golden name of world wrestling, our World and Olympic Champion Yaşar Doğu spent part of his life in the 1950s in his house at number 41, İsmet Paşa Mahallesi, Uzun Yol Sokak. The Turkish Wrestling Foundation, which was established in 1980, gave information about Turkish wrestling in order to protect Turkish wrestling sports and those who worked for wrestling, to take Turkish wrestling to a higher level and to raise ethical athletes in a scientific sense. He bought this house with the prize money he received when he became the world champion in the competition. He sat with his family on the top floor, and discovered how many young, talented, wrestlers and athletes in Anatolia, and brought them to Turkish wrestling by meeting their needs for shelter and food and beverage, with his own means. Names such as Mahmut Atalay, Teyfik Kış, Mustafa Dağistanlı and Ahmet Ayık are the main ones… But unfortunately Yaşar Doğu's house was destroyed in the past period, and the zoning plan in the area where his house is located was processed as a health facility. Work has started to re-build Yaşar Doğu's house as the 'Yaşar Doğu Wrestling Museum', to carry Yaşar Doğu there to future generations without forgetting them, and to establish a museum there to commemorate our champions who have devoted themselves to Turkish wrestling. First of all, he solved the zoning area problem and then the property problem was actually prepared properly. We aim to keep our world champions who added value to Turkish wrestling alive there.”
