There have been a few interesting developments about The Night Agent season 2 in recent weeks.
- In May 2023, series creator Shawn Ryan tweeted a photo of the WGA strike from the spotter line. Ryan mentioned The Night Agent in the title, and he's apparently suggesting that the writers' room for season 2 of The Night Agent is on hold until the strike is over.
- Netflix has renewed The Night Agent for season 2 just days after the first season aired.
- The series broke viewership records and is now in the Top 5 in its first four weeks.
- According to ComicBook.com, Ryan revealed that there will be an entirely new cast and a new setting (not Washington DC) for season 2.
- In April 2023, Gabriel Basso told TV Line that he had been kept in the dark about his plans for season 2 until now.
The Night Agent season 2 is coming
Netflix has renewed The Night Agent for season 2, six days after the series aired! That's a quick refresh, especially considering that it took several months for Netflix to renew on Wednesday, which is officially the biggest Netflix show of 2022 and the third-biggest opening for a Netflix show of all time.
The Night Agent wasn't quite as big as Wednesday, but it's on track to become one of the top 10 Netflix releases of all time.
Shawn Ryan, creator and executive producer of The Night Agent, shared his thoughts on the renewal via Netflix:
“Last week has been a whirlwind as we were finally able to share The Night Agent with the world. It has been a joy to see the tremendous response to the show and an honor for our cast, writers, directors, team and partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn't be prouder or more excited as we went crazy in Season 2 to share the other adventures of Night Action with our newly discovered fans.”
Has Netflix announced The Night Agent season 2 release date?
Unfortunately no, Netflix has yet to announce The Night Agent season 2 release date. We have literally just received the renewal announcement, so it will be quite a while before we see The Night Agent season 2.
Netflix has confirmed that The Night Agent season 2 will arrive in 2024.
However, we also know that no one started working on The Night Agent season 2 until after the renewal. Ryan told Deadline that they haven't set up the writers room for season 2 as the season hasn't been picked up yet.
As mentioned, the writers' strike seems to have stalled the writing process for The Night Agent season 2. If the strike lasts through the summer and into the fall, The Night Agent season 2 will likely be delayed.
We hope studios and networks can put an end to this soon and ensure that shows like The Night Agent are not delayed.
The good thing about The Night Agent is that we didn't expect it to take long to shoot season 2. Honestly, it depends on what's going on with the season, but I think our chances of seeing a second season are really high. On Netflix in spring 2024.
Usually, at least a year passes between the start of work on a new season and its release on Netflix. This wait can take much longer depending on a few things, but most of the time this should be enough time.

The Night Agent season 2 cast
The Night Agent season 2 cast has yet to be announced, but we have a good idea of who will be appearing in the new season. Unfortunately, that's probably not quite what people who loved the first season wanted to hear.
Gabriel Basso will definitely return as Peter Sutherland. She is the lead role and is gearing up for an even bigger role in season 2.
We also hope to see Luciane Buchanan and Fola Evans-Akingbola again in season 2. It's possible they weren't involved, but they were big enough characters in the first season. the story moved away from these great characters.
Ryan also told Deadline that most of the second season's cast will be different.
If we're successful enough to make Netflix want more seasons, I think it's going to be a whole new world where you'll see a limited number of characters from this season go into it. But that's something I have to sit down with the writers and sort things out.

The Night Agent season 2 episode count
Netflix has announced that The Night Agent season 2 will also consist of 10 episodes. The first season of the series consisted of 10 episodes.
The Night Agent season 1 ending has been announced
At the end of the first season of The Night Agent, Peter, Rose and Agent Arrington stop the attack on the President at Camp David. The Vice President is taken into custody, as is Diane Farr. We have to assume that after the results of the subway bombing and assassination attempt, they will not be featured in future episodes.
We also see the mysterious CEO Gordon Wick on the run. It could be a big part of future seasons.
At the end of the season, Peter becomes a Night Agent! We think so too. He reads a document that says “Night Action: Mission Summary” and then takes off in a jet. Peter is now a total spy!
Is there a second The Night Agent book?
Unfortunately, there is only one Night Agent book written by Matthew Quirk. While there is currently no second book, I assume this may change in the near future. It was a huge commercial success. I think people will be very interested in continuing this story in print.
What's next in The Night Agent season 2?
It would be a mistake to assume we know what will happen in The Night Agent season 2. It seems the writers have a lot of room to play with this story and they can move in all directions.
Overall, I think Peter's story will continue as a Night Agent and he will want to take down corrupt officials, high-profile criminals and corporations around the world.
There's still a lot we don't know about the Night Action program. We know several agents, including Rose's aunt and uncle. I think we will learn a lot about the program, about what the official mission of the program is and how Peter can help.
We should also see Chelsea Arrington and Rose resume their careers after saving the country. Are Peter and Rose still romantically together? Could she be a spy like her aunt and uncle in the future? It's like things are up in the air.
In April 2023, Ryan told ComicBook.com that there won't be that many returning characters in season 2.

“When I presented this to Netflix, I basically said, This is an ongoing series, but each season will be a self-contained story. And then in future seasons, there will be very few characters carried over from the previous season. We're not trying to keep seven or eight characters going for more than one season."
He also announced that the new season and the story will not take place in or around Washington DC.
"2. One thing I will tell you about Season 1 is that it doesn't take place in the DC region where Season XNUMX took place.”
