Üsküdar University TRGENMER's Project Selected as Space Traveler

Within the scope of the National Space Program, the science projects that Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever will explore on the International Space Station have been determined. One of the 13 projects announced to go to space was the 'Message (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Science Mission' developed by Üsküdar University TRGENMER. With the project, it will be determined by CRISPR gene engineering methods that genes affected by the non-gravity environment, whose functions have not been discovered yet, and which immune cells will be directly affected by gravity in space missions.

In the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, there will be a Turk in space

In 100, the 2023th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, a Turkish astronaut will conduct research on the projects determined on the International Space Station. At Turkey's Space, Aviation and Technology Festival TEKNOFEST, a main and a substitute name to go into space were announced. Accordingly, Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever (Substitute) will be among the team that will carry out 13 different experiments prepared by universities and research institutions for about two weeks on the International Space Station.

13 science projects going into space announced

After the announcement of two names that will be space travelers in 2023 within the scope of the National Space Program, the experiments to be carried out within the scope of the program were announced. One of the experiments to be carried out by Turkish astronauts, who will focus on 14 projects on the International Space Station for 13 days, is the "Message (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Science Mission" project developed by Üsküdar University Transgenic Cell Technologies and Epigenetics Application and Research Center (TRGENMER). The project, put forward by Üsküdar University TRGENMER researchers, will be taken to the International Space Station by Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever.

The project draws attention to an important area for our future in space.

Research applications to go to space were evaluated by a commission consisting of experts from TÜBİTAK, TUA and Axiom Space. It is known that criteria such as scientific contribution, value, cost, schedule, feasibility and compatibility with the International Space Station infrastructures are effective in the selection of the project.

Among the projects determined after long investigations, Üsküdar TRGENMER Researchers; “Microgravity Associated Genetics” developed by Büşra Tekirdağlı, Özge Demir, Ebru Çam, Fatmanur Erkek, Berranur Sert and Gamze Gülden

The "Science Mission/Microgravity-Related Genetic Science Mission" experiment has been named space traveller.

The project draws attention to a very important area for our future in space. Project Manager Instructor Member Cihan Taştan with experiment; “We aim to analyze the genetic profile of our Turkish astronaut and investigate the Anti-Cancer, Proliferation and Immunogenic Effects in the Acoustic Levitation Device Providing Microgravity Environment. We will use CRISPR gene engineering methods to identify genes that are affected by the non-gravity environment, whose function has not yet been discovered, and which immune cells will be directly affected by gravity in space missions.” used the phrases.
