Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has brought the project, which will turn the area where Demirtaş Grass Ski Facilities, which hosted the Grass Ski World Championship 30 years ago, but which has been idle for the last 15 years, into a center of attraction, to the completion stage.

Grass Ski Facilities, which were built by DSI on the area where Demirtaş Dam is located during the period when Erdem Saker, one of the former mayors of the Metropolitan Municipality, was the 1987st Regional Manager of DSI in 1, is being put into the service of Bursa residents with a different concept. The area, which hosted the Grass Ski World Championship in 1991 with the participation of Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, has been left to its fate in recent years due to both neglect and quarries opened in the surrounding area. The Metropolitan Municipality, which has set a target of 3 million square meters of new green space by the end of the term in order to make Bursa a city known for green again, is bringing the area in Demirtaş to the city as a privileged recreation area.

Attraction point

Within the scope of the project, work continues rapidly on an area of 35 thousand 200 square meters, which was allocated from the Regional Directorate of Forestry. The project, which includes a cafeteria, security building, toilet, buffet, children's playgrounds, caravan area, parking lot, picnic areas, sitting and resting areas and walking paths, has reached the completion stage. Demirtaş Recreation Area, where there will be a caravan area for 132 vehicles and a parking lot for a total of 14 vehicles, will be an important meeting point where Bursa residents will breathe again this summer, after many years.

'Green Bursa' again

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş stated that they are trying to bring qualified, large, usable green areas to the city in order to further highlight the green identity of Bursa, and noted that the area used as grass ski facilities years ago within the borders of Demirtaş has been waiting in an idle state for about 15 years. Expressing that the area could not be used in any way due to the quarries, Mayor Aktaş said, “We started the work here last year. As in the past, this will be one of the alternative areas where our citizens will come with pleasure. We will add different functions to it over time. Our work on hard ground roads, social facilities, parking lot, campervan area, picnic areas, green areas, security and all outbuildings has been completed to a large extent. We plan to finish it in a short time and open it to the service of our people. Good luck now,” he said.
