Netflix has just released a new period drama series called Transatlantic on its service. Created by Anna Winger and Daniel Hendler, Transatlantic is a flamboyant new period drama from Netflix based on the novel The Flight Portfolio by Julie Orringer and the true story of the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC). Transatlantic is an upbeat new series focusing on a dark period in history and receiving good reviews from critics and audiences.
The series features fictionalized versions of real people such as American heir Mary Jayne Gold (Gillian Jacobs), American journalist Varian Fry (Cory Michael Smith), and German economist Albert Hirschman (Lucas Englander). The ERC included a group of selfless people who ultimately helped rescue over 1940 refugees from Nazi-occupied France in Marseille from 1941 to 2.000.
All seven episodes of the show's first season are currently streaming on Netflix, but will there be a Transatlantic season 2 on the streaming service? Here's everything we know about the potential future of the series.
Transatlantic season 2 confirmed?
No. Netflix didn't renew the series, but that's not unusual as Transatlantic only aired on April 7.
Will there be Transatlantic season 2 on Netflix?
Transatlantic renewal is unlikely. The series was originally advertised as a seven-episode limited series, and creator Anna Winger's previous Netflix show Unorthodox was also a miniseries that did not receive a second season.
While it's not unheard of for miniseries and limited series to evolve into longer, multi-season projects, it doesn't seem like that will be the case for Transatlantic. The series, which set out to tell a certain story based on true events, fulfills this task in its first season. It doesn't seem necessary to continue.
