Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç announced that they will increase the number of smart intersections to 2 within 123 months by taking a transportation briefing at the Traffic Signalization Center, which provides the opportunity to directly intervene in the signaling system with smart traffic management.
Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç said, “150. He met with the transportation staff at the Traffic Signaling Center, which he included among the “150 Projects per Year”.
While the Deputy Secretary General Ali Hasdal and the heads of departments accompanied the President Büyükkılıç, Head of Transportation Planning and Rail System Sedat Erdoğan, together with his team, made a detailed presentation about smart intersections to Büyükkılıç.
Making a statement after the meeting, which lasted about 2 hours, President Büyükkılıç said, “We have evaluated the work of our transportation unit on smart intersections today. Of course, by increasing our number of smart intersections, which was around 50 before, to over 80, a great distance has been taken. We believe that we will achieve our target in two months by reaching around 120 numbers," he said.
Stating that they aim to act faster, Büyükkılıç said, “We aim to achieve gains such as reducing carbon emissions, making use of people's time, being more economical in terms of fuel, etc. At the same time, we will prevent the management of the process from the center by means of these smart intersections when necessary, and preventing people from waiting at the intersections unnecessarily. Hopefully, we will be in a position to provide all of them in the next process," he said.
Mayor Büyükkılıç thanked the personnel of the transportation unit for their work and said, "I would like to thank our transportation unit for their efforts, for carrying out these works with our own resources and software team, without bringing an additional burden to our municipality with their own software."
Büyükkılıç wished the people of Kayseri to have a healthy and peaceful Ramadan due to the approaching Ramadan, and said:
“The month of Ramadan starts two days later, and on this occasion, I congratulate our fellow citizens on the month of Ramadan. I hope that we will have a healthy and peaceful Ramadan. The most important question I asked during the evaluations; How can we make our citizens wait less during iftar time, how can we move faster at intersections. Calling on drivers and pedestrians to obey the rules, Mayor Büyükkılıç said, “If we obey the traffic rules, we will all be comfortable. We do not sabotage the traffic and we do not lose our peace. I am sharing here so that we will stay away from traffic accidents and not spoil the taste of our mouths.”
Büyükkılıç reminded that they carry out works in cooperation with the police and said, “I would also like to remind you that we are doing these studies in cooperation with our police, and that we have a good-willed approach to managing the process together and we are in solidarity. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, which strives to increase the number of smart intersections in the transportation of the city, to bring the comfort of transportation to better points, to save time and fuel and to reduce carbon emissions, will increase the number of 84 smart intersections that are currently active to 2 within 123 months. In this way, it is aimed to make the traffic more fluid and to reduce the waiting time at the lights, while there are 285 traffic cameras throughout the city.
