Turkish Defense Industry 2023 Targets

The Turkish defense industry has achieved many firsts in 2022. In this article, we have compiled the targets that were successfully achieved by the Turkish defense industry in 2022 and are expected to be realized in 2023.

Unrealized Goals Announced in 2022 and Remaining to 2023

  • The first deliveries of our original helicopter GÖKBEY will be made to the Gendarmerie General Command.
  • Bayraktar TB3 SİHA, which can land and take off on ships with short runways, will make its first flight.
  • Within the scope of the Air - Air Missile (Göktuğ) Project, the first deliveries of BOZDOĞAN In-Sight Missiles and GÖKDOĞAN Over-Sight Missiles will be made.
  • Gökdeniz Near Air Defense System will be integrated for the first time.
  • The KARAOK Missile will enter the inventory for the first time.
  • The first delivery of the Armored Amphibious Assault Vehicle ZAHA will be made.
  • The KILIÇSAT Cube Satellite will be launched into space, which will provide the national and local production LNA module with history in space and obtain the location and route information of the ships.
  • The first delivery of the Early Warning Radar System ERALP will be made.
  • KTJ3200 Turbojet Engine to be used in SOM and ATMACA missiles will be delivered.

What Didn't Happen and Didn't Take Place This Year

  • Basic Trainer HÜRKUŞ deliveries were to be made.
  • MILGEM 6-7-8. Contracts for the ships were to be signed. (SSİK decision has been made, progress has been made, probably not announced, but will take place in 2023)
  • Integration of Bayraktar TB3 SİHA to the Multi-Purpose Amphibious Assault Ship ANADOLU would begin.
  • The Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft Project was to be launched for the General Directorate of Security.
  • The fire control systems in the M60T tanks were to be renewed with the local and national Volkan-M system.
  • Within the scope of the Turkish Type Assault Boat Project (TTHB), the process for the construction of the prototype ship would begin.
  • The Test Infrastructure, where the tests of turboshaft engines to be used in helicopters, will be put into service.
  • The Development of Electronic Warfare Systems to be Used in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles-İHASOJ Project was to be started.
  • The National Electronic Warfare Suite Development-FEWS Project was to be started.
  • The contract for the ASELFLIR-600 Project, the advanced version of our CATS cameras used in UAVs, was to be signed.
  • to the Land Forces Command; The delivery of the nationally developed pilot night vision goggles device would be realized for the first time.
  • Within the scope of the Aktif-HETS Project, the first delivery of the laser-based helicopter obstacle detection system capable of active scanning was to be made.
  • Within the scope of GAMUS Project, communication systems of EGM and Jn.GK were to be integrated with GAMER centers and with each other.
  • The AVCI-2 Helmet System, which includes a national display module, would be used in ATAK helicopters.

In some of the items mentioned above, there is a possibility that the processes have started but not been announced. In particular, the contract signatures may not be announced to the public or be announced late.

Achieved and completed targets in 2022

  • The development of the National Combat Aircraft and the production of parts continued.
  • Jet Training and Light Attack Aircraft HÜRJET left the hangar and ground tests began.
  • Mini-UAV-D systems and Mini-UAV-Draining Ammunition BOYGA's were put into use for the first time.
  • TOGAN UAV, developed by STM, was delivered to the security forces.
  • With the delivery of the last A400M aircraft, our A10M fleet of 400 aircraft has been completed.
  • Within the scope of the Meltem-3 Project, the project will be completed with the delivery of 2 P-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft. (?)
  • The first deliveries of SUNGUR Portable Air Defense Missiles were made.
  • ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile entered the inventory.
  • First deliveries of PARS 6×6 Mine Protected Vehicles were made.
  • The first Armored Combat Vehicle-ZMA with modernized and integrated unmanned gun turret was delivered.
  • In the New Type Submarine Project, the 2nd Submarine was pulled into the pool.
  • MERT and MERTER Portable Electronic Attack Systems were launched for the first time.
  • The first x-ray vehicle and container scanning system MİLTAR (National Scanning System) will be installed at the Ministry of Commerce's facility in İzmir Alsancak Port.
  • The installation of the Gendarmerie Smart Control Point and the Gendarmerie Smart Patrol Application has begun.
  • STM delivered the KERKES Project, which enables UAVs to operate in areas without GPS.
  • The National Intelligence Ship TCG UFUK was delivered to the Turkish Navy with a ceremony.
  • The National Production Integrated Combat Management System (MÜREN) entered the inventory.
  • Diver Detection Sonar ARAS-2023 of the Anatolian amphibious assault ship entered the inventory.
  • Developed for the destruction of Mini/Micro UAVs HAWK The 40 mm Physical Disposal System entered the inventory for the first time.
  • MAM-T, which was developed with the knowledge gained from ROKETSAN's proven MAM family in the field, entered the inventory.
  • VURAN armored vehicle entered the service of the Amphibious Marine Corps.
  • The domestic and national guidance kit HGK-82 (Precision Guidance Kit), developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, entered the inventory with the highest locality rate.
  • The prototypes of the Passive Exoskeleton system developed by Interact were delivered to the security forces.
  • DATA, Turkey's first submarine test infrastructure developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, was put into service.
  • The “3000 Ton Submarine Dock”, which is of critical importance to meet the needs of submarine construction and modernization, was launched.
  • The variable caliber sniper rifle KN-12, developed and produced by MKE, entered the TAF inventory.
  • In the first RF (Radio Frequency) Seeker Headed Test Missile of the HİSAR O+ System, the target was destroyed and a new capability was added to our air defense.
  • HİSAR A+ and HİSAR o+ air defense missile systems, which are an important step in Turkey's layered air defense, were delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces with all their elements.
  • TCG ANADOLU has been prepared for delivery and will be put into service with a ceremony.

2023 targets

  • National Combat Aircraft will leave the hangar and make its first flight
  • Jet Training and Light Attack Aircraft HÜRJET will make its first flight.
  • Various flight maneuver tests and ammunition integrations of the combat unmanned fighter aircraft 'Bayraktar KIZILELMA' will be carried out.
  • The first F-16s, whose avionics modernization will be completed, will be delivered as part of the "Free Project".
  • F-16s will perform their duties by integrating the domestic-national electronic warfare pod and electronic support pod.
  • The AESA nose radar, which will be integrated into the AKINCI TİHA, will later be used in F-16 warplanes.
  • The 'İmece' earth observation satellite will be launched into space.
  • 'ANATOLIAN', which will be the world's first SİHA ship, will be put into service.
  • The sea supply combat support ship 'DERYA' will be put into service.
  • The first of the İ-class frigates, 'İSTANBUL', will be put into service.
  • The first of the new type submarine, 'PİRİ REİS', will be put into service.
  • The first delivery of domestically powered 'Vuran' armored vehicles will be made.
  • The long-range air defense and missile system 'SIPER' will be put into service.
  • First deliveries will be made in the Pedestal Mounted Javelin (KMC) Project.
