Noting that they are carrying out important studies for the protection of the environment in 2022, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir stated that they completed the Al-Mizan World Environment Convention project in 2022, and Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. He said that he and Nevzat Tarhan shared it with the public in September 2022.
Noting that at the start of a new year, world scientists invited the whole world to take action to protect nature with the warning of "Climate Emergency", Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir noted that he wanted to translate the warning text and share it. Özdemir said, “The year 2022 was the 1992th anniversary of the World Scientists' Warning to Humanity, which was signed by more than 700 scientists in 30. Although there were very positive developments in this process, the destruction of our planet and the problems related to the climate continued. The Sea of Marmara is still on its deathbed. Fish no longer live in many of our rivers, especially the Ergene River. It's time to take care of our planet, our environment, our land, our seas, our lakes, our forests, our 'home' in short. We have translated the manifesto written by famous scientists and signed by approximately 15 thousand scientists so far. Of course, first of all, let me state that as a Muslim environmentalist, I also signed this call.” said.
Noting that the message of the scientists who prepared the manifesto was clear and unequivocal, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir said, “We are currently in a 'code red' situation for the world. Humanity is definitely facing a climate emergency. The scale of human suffering, which is already enormous, is growing rapidly as climate-related disasters increase. That's why we urge scientists, citizens and world leaders to read this special report and take swift action to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Our colleagues draw attention to the moral urgency of this global crisis.” he said.
Noting that the Üsküdar University Environmental Ethics Forum is what they are trying to do, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir said, “To act morally without expecting anything from others. Other disasters this year include the horrific bushfires in Europe, back-to-back tornadoes and subsequent floods in eastern Australia, multiple rivers that dried up in China and Europe, an extraordinarily severe hurricane that hit the southeastern United States, Bangladesh and India. There are strong storms and large-scale floods in Turkey.” The warning text also included details such as economy, energy, climate effects and climate policy, and called for action.
