January 11

Provincial and district national education directors of Ağrı, Antalya, Batman, Bursa, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Muş, Van and Ministry administrators attended the second meeting of the “Reuniting with Education” project held at Gölbaşı Mogan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Application Hotel.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer shared a good news about the project at the beginning of the meeting. Noting that the project, which started on January 4, began to bear fruit less than a week later, Özer announced that thanks to the project, the schooling rate in secondary education rose to 95.97 percent.

Stating that false allegations have spread in the past months that 868 thousand girls cannot access schools, Minister Özer noted that an intensive study was carried out by comparing the records of the Ministry of Interior and other records, and that the number turned out to be around 280 thousand.

Stating that they held a meeting with all provincial national education directors on 16 December 2022, Özer stated that a study was conducted to determine whether these 280 thousand people were actually at the addresses given. Özer stated that they met with the provincial and district national education directors of Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Konya, Adana, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep and Diyarbakır last week and said that he checked the numbers while coming to this second meeting:

“I got the numbers, we see a good movement started because the enrollment rates in secondary education were 95,06 percent; increased to 95,97 percent. So it went up to 96 percent. That's a good sign…”

Noting that they aim to increase the schooling rate in secondary education to 99 percent by the end of March, Özer said, “We do not want to lose any of our students, any of our siblings.” used his statements.

“We, as the Ministry, will be on the field together with our esteemed friends and will fight to solve this problem so that all children of our country can meet with education.” Özer emphasized that winning even a single person creates great happiness and that everything they do is related to the strengthening of schools.

Provincial and district national education directors participating in the meeting also had the opportunity to convey the problems they encountered in the field with the studies they carried out in their regions.

Minister Özer added that they will continue to provide all kinds of support so that children can receive a better quality education.
