Gülermak, one of Turkey's most important construction companies, is building the tram project of Krakow, one of the largest cities in Poland. The project undertaken by Gülermak will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

According to the EBRD's website, the construction work, which is referred to as a public-private partnership project, will cost 824 million Polish Zlotys, or approximately 176 million euros. The EBRD will finance a third of the project, 3 million euros.

According to the news in Dünya newspaper; “The remaining 4 million euros of the high-speed tram network, whose fourth phase will be built, will be jointly financed by the European Investment Bank and a Polish commercial bank. The high-speed tram project to be built in Krakow, the historical city of Poland, will have a 122-kilometer line. The work, which will include a new 4.5-metre tunnel and upgrading of related infrastructure, will involve more than 900 additional tram rides per hour.

Commenting on the project and its financing, Susan Goeransson, EBRD Director of Infrastructure Europe, said: “We are proud to support Krakow's efforts to make transport greener. The project, eagerly awaited by the people of the city, will make Krakow's tram network faster and more convenient, encouraging more people to use trams instead of cars. The related infrastructure will also serve pedestrians and cyclists.”

The project will be Krakow's first PPP study. Gülermak Chairman of the Board Kemal Güleryüz said, “The Krakow tram project is a pioneering project in the development of the public-private partnership (PPP) market in Poland. As Gülermak Group, we represent the project, which is the first investment of Poland in the tram field. The EBRD brings significant experience to the project and also guides all stakeholders to prioritize the green economy transition. We are also proud to work with the EBRD on the project.”
