ABB Opens Fully Automatic Robot Factory in Shanghai

ABB, a world-renowned Swedish-Swiss group headquartered in Zurich, has opened a fully automated and flexible robotics factory in Shanghai's Kangqiao location. The investment made for the production and research area of 67 thousand square meters amounted to 150 million dollars in total.

ABB will deploy its own digital and automation technologies at the facility, creating the robot generation of the future. The company thus strives to achieve its leading position in the robotics and automation markets in China.

The opening of this large new factory is the last of the company's 30 years of successful operations in China. ABB officials; believes that its innovative, automated and flexible factories are a key component of its companies' “In China, for China” strategies and will strengthen their value creation processes in this country. In addition, according to the officials, up to 90 percent of the robotic-solutions they will sell in China will be made in this factory. Thus, this new facility will also contribute to Chinese entrepreneurs in developing more products, solutions and services at the local level.

In fact, ABB is based on the assumption that the global robotics market, worth $80 billion today, will grow to $2025 billion by 130. In this context, China is the world's largest robotics market. Indeed, in 2021, 51 percent of the world's robot facilities were established in China. For the first time in the country, more than a million robots were involved in the production process.
