The first charity ship sent by Turkey for the flood victims in Pakistan, containing approximately 900 tons of humanitarian aid, has arrived in Karachi.
Carrying around 900 tons of relief supplies, including food, blankets, winter clothes and cleaning products, the ship docked at the port in Karachi.
Sind Governor Kamran Tessori, Turkey's Karachi Consul General Cemal Sangu, AFAD Kırşehir Provincial Director İbrahim Avşar, Turkish Red Crescent Pakistan Delegation Head İbrahim Carlos Camilo, TİKA Karachi Program Coordinator Halil İbrahim Başaran and guests attended the ceremony held at the port.
Making a statement at the ceremony, Sangu stated that they wanted to tell the victims of the flood that they were not alone and said, “The Turkish people are with you. The second ship will arrive in Karachi on February 4th.” said. Sind Governor Tessori thanked Ankara for Turkey's continued support.
The second charity ship, containing 763 tons of humanitarian aid, is expected to arrive in Karachi on February 4.
AFAD's Aid to Pakistan
AFAD, which started preparations for aid from the first moment of the flood disaster in the monsoon period last year in Pakistan, sent the first humanitarian aid plane that reached Pakistan on 28 August 2022 from Turkey. In addition to the air bridge, AFAD also delivered aid materials to Pakistan with kindness trains.
Since August 2022, AFAD has staffed in the region in order to coordinate the work in Pakistan on site and to ensure the process of obtaining humanitarian aid materials from the local. Under the coordination of the AFAD Presidency, 15 planes, 13 kindness trains and one kindness ship have been sent to the region so far.
A total of 38 thousand family-style tents, 565 thousand food parcels, 2 million 826 thousand units of medical supplies, 120 thousand blankets, beds and pillows, 11 thousand units of kitchen sets, 9 thousand units of other kitchen supplies, 50 thousand units were supplied locally to Pakistan. The unit sent clothing and carpets, 2 mobile health units and camps, and 50 motorboats.
Due to the flood disaster in Pakistan in 2022, approximately 1740 people lost their lives and more than 12 thousand people were injured.
It is stated that the cost of the floods, which affected more than 33 million people across the country, is over 30 billion dollars.
