İBB opened a 'Temporary Accommodation Center' at the Greater Istanbul Bus Terminal as part of the 'IMM By Your Side' campaign. The center, which has the capacity to host 46 adults and 8 children, will provide services in 19 different units from the cafeteria to the laundry, from the psychological support room to the barber. IMM President, who made examinations in the center Ekrem İmamoğlushared the information that they will increase the number of similar areas. İmamoğlu said, “We support thousands of our citizens living on the streets in cold winter conditions. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) opened a "Temporary Accommodation Center" at the Great Istanbul Bus Terminal in Bayrampasa, as part of the "IMM Standing by IMM in Time of Troubles" campaign. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlumade examinations at the center, which will serve the intercity bus passengers and citizens living on the street, making delayed trips due to the roads closed in Anatolia during the winter months. İmamoğlu also made his evaluations about the area put into service in the cafeteria of the center.
“WE AIM TO ESTABLISH A SUSTAINABLE AND MEANINGFUL MECHANISM”
“For the homeless citizens of our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; We are visiting an area where they are hosted, ate their meals, stay as guests and spend time,” said İmamoğlu. We support thousands of our citizens living on the streets in cold winter conditions. We are in our own places. Sometimes it's not enough, we transfer them to different hotels. We are staying there. Of course, other institutions of our state also provide support for accommodation. But it is valuable for us to establish a sustainable and meaningful mechanism that achieves results. That's exactly what we're doing here. We are creating such a center.”
"THE STATE'S HAND IS HOT"
Expressing that he also directed many citizens he came across during field studies to such areas, İmamoğlu said:
“They also talk about what they have been through and what they want. So I say, one; When he gets here, someone will listen to him first. Two; Does she want to stay? It will stay. Three; will see your needs. Shaving, grooming and so on. Four; Some health-related issues will be examined. They will be overhauled. If there is something urgent, it will be transferred to another place. But if there is a condition that can be rested and resolved under certain conditions, it will be taken care of. Apart from that, the fifth; If our citizen who comes here wants to go to his village, if he wants to go to his hometown, if he is in despair, we will strongly support him financially. The concept of 'Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is next to you in times of difficulty' that I mentioned here should be just that. We will send our citizen to his village. We also have a bus station with us. We will send it with our bus station. If he has no clothes; his coat, his trousers, his shoes; certain needs, we will meet. The hand of the state is warm. The place of the state is home. We will do our best to reflect that feeling, for our citizens living on the streets. Is it just them? Not. I see a large number of refugees and asylum seekers living on the street. We will show them the same care and warmth here. We will take care of them.”
“SOLIDARITY WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT BRINGS QUICK SOLUTION”
Emphasizing that there are some opportunities offered by the state to people within this scope, İmamoğlu said, “Unfortunately, the issue of refugee asylum seekers is managed only by the central administration. We have neither the budget nor the authority on this issue. I wish it was. I have stated in many places that a faster solution can be found when they are in solidarity with the local government. But that is the current government's choice. If there is such a situation then, our citizens will be taken care of again, their needs will be met and they will be transferred to the relevant institution or they will be asked for support, after the stay here," he said.
“THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR CENTERS WILL INCREASE”
Emphasizing that they aim to increase the number of similar centers, İmamoğlu said, “I gave another instruction. Especially in certain locations; For example, it is necessary to establish a center that will only maintain logistics and dialogue, provided that it is located around Taksim, for example Aksaray region, and one on the Anatolian side. In other words, he came, talked, became a place of transfer, some of his needs were met quickly. Maybe some tests were done. In other words, he will not say, 'Where will I go, what can I do'. The headmen of those neighborhoods will know this, our district heads will know this, political parties will know this, institutions and organizations will also know; He will be able to send it 'to the address right here'. So, we're going to fix a messy field layout quickly. We will also quickly mobilize these logistics areas. We have venues. I think that we can only finalize this with an orderly, orderly arrangement of the area and the assignment of our experienced and expert friends there. It is valuable for us that this center and other centers that are opened now are ready for winter at this maturity. HOSPITALLY CAPACITY OF 46 ADULTS AND 8 CHILDREN
IMM Temporary Accommodation Center will serve with 1000 square meters of usage and 500 square meters of garden area. In the center; There are a total of 6 different units, including 2 bunk beds, 2 family rooms, 80 socializing areas, a cafeteria for 2 people, a service office, a psychological support room, a children's activity room, a laundry, a barber, and 19 staff clothing and warehouses. The center, which has the capacity to host 46 adults and 8 children, will provide boarding services within the scope of winter services, and temporary sheltering services at other times during the day. Washing, drying and ironing of the clothes, bed linens and towels of the citizens will be provided with the laundry service at the specified time intervals, and new clothes will be given to those in need.
