Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that they will start a new study to spread the safe school culture and said, “We will quickly implement the new measures we need to take according to the results of the workshop that we will organize in order to explain peer bullying, increase awareness, strengthen school-family cooperation and support the studies to be carried out afterwards.” said.

In his statement on the subject, Minister of National Education Özer explained that under the General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services, multi-faceted studies are carried out in the guidance and psychological counseling services for students. Explaining that they take the developmental stages of the students into consideration in these studies, Özer said that the activities carried out are also focused on academic, social, emotional and career development areas.

In this context, Özer stated that with the 2022-2023 academic year, new awareness and psychoeducation programs including "peer bullying", "cyberbullying", "psychological resilience" were prepared and put into practice at all levels in schools. He also explained that mentoring programs are being carried out.

In addition to this, Özer pointed out that developmental preventive psychological counseling and guidance services are provided in schools for the risk situations that students may encounter, and said, "In addition to our classroom guidance programs, our children express their feelings in healthy ways, develop empathy skills, respect differences, and social skills such as conflict resolution, cooperation, cooperation. We have prepared peer bullying awareness programs to help them win. We have also implemented our psychoeducational programs to help students create safe communication environments at school by improving their friendships.” shared his knowledge. Özer also stated that various programs have been prepared for preschool and primary school students to raise awareness about peer bullying and develop coping skills.

“We have zero tolerance for bullying”

Noting that awareness studies are carried out on the definition, types, causes and consequences of bullying in schools to families, school administrators and teachers, Özer gave the following information: “We show zero tolerance for bullying in our schools, in our entire education system, against bullying by the teacher against the student, student against the teacher, student against the student, and teacher against the teacher. We follow all processes in this regard. We make no compromises in making educational institutions safe for our children and teachers. We are accelerating our efforts to spread this culture in our schools.

We will organize a workshop with the participation of academicians who are experts in their fields in order to explain peer bullying, increase awareness and support the studies to be carried out afterwards. In this direction, we will come together with 100 participants consisting of academicians, school administrators from different provinces from different types and levels, guidance teachers and psychological counselors, in our workshop on 'Holy School Approach in Preventing Peer Bullying'. In the workshop to be held at the beginning of the week, we will discuss the issue from many aspects with our academics, by addressing issues such as the prevention and coping strategies of peer bullying, the role of families and schools in preventing peer bullying. According to the results of the workshop, when there are new measures and new regulations that we need to take, we will implement them quickly.”
