Continuing on its way with the targets it has set on the axis of environmental sustainability, Turkcell continues to focus on energy efficiency solutions in infrastructure and business processes. Having saved more than 2022 million kilowatt hours of energy in 63,3, Turkcell managed to reduce its total energy consumption by 3,4 percent compared to the previous year, despite its growing infrastructure and increasing needs.

Acting with the awareness of sustainability in all its activities, Turkcell continues to implement energy saving practices at every stage of its business processes. Contributing to both reducing Turkey's energy costs and protecting the environment, Turkcell has saved more than 2022 million kilowatt hours of energy throughout 63,3, thanks to the energy efficiency studies and alternative energy investments implemented in many focus areas in the network infrastructure. The amount of savings achieved through Turkcell's efficiency approach is equivalent to the annual total electricity consumption of more than 23 thousand households. In this way, Turkcell managed to realize the total amount of energy consumed in 2022 by 2021 percent, even below the level in 3,4, despite its growing infrastructure and increasing needs.

Gediz Sezgin: “We increase efficiency by focusing on renewable energy solutions”

Turkcell Network Technologies Deputy General Manager Gediz Sezgin said, “As a company that pays attention to the development of sustainable practices in every aspect, we produce solutions to reduce environmental impact in base stations, data centers and office buildings. Reducing energy consumption means protecting the country's resources and the environment. With this awareness, we have increased our investments and efforts in 2022 in order to reduce consumption and ensure energy production from environmentally friendly renewable sources.”

Referring to Turkcell's efforts for solar base stations that meet its own needs within the framework of renewable energy, Sezgin said, “As Turkcell, we attach great importance to the more efficient use of our country's energy resources. In this context, we use renewable energy solutions and increase our capacity in this field every year. For this purpose, in 2022, we accelerated the solar panel solutions we installed next to the base stations and called 'Greensite'. Thanks to this solution, we can meet the energy needed by base stations from solar energy with artificial intelligence supported technology. In 2022, we implemented this solar panel solution in more than 500 base stations. We increased our solar-based investments to 1,4 MW, more than three times more than the installed power of the previous year. With this solution, we both reduce the amount of energy we use from the electricity grid and increase the service continuity of our base stations, providing uninterrupted service to our customers. We plan to continue these investments focused on environmental sustainability and efficiency in 2023 without slowing down.” said.

Sezgin also stated that the remote monitoring and control of energy consumption in the network is carried out entirely through the energy management system developed by Turkcell engineers with domestic facilities, and pointed out that the artificial intelligence application developed makes a great contribution to efficiency in energy management.

The target is to meet half of the energy needs from the sun by 2025.

Turkcell has been holding the ISO 2018 certificate since 50001 in order to maintain the accreditation of its energy management process, which it has strengthened with the investments it has made and the management systems it has developed, at international standards. As the first mobile operator in Turkey to have the ISO 50001 Energy Management System Standard, Turkcell aims to provide 2030% of the energy needs of the group companies from renewable energy sources until 100 and to become a 'net zero' company by 2050, in line with its national and international sustainability targets. commits.

Turkcell, which started its investments in line with these goals and included in its plans to reach 2025 MW solar power plant installed capacity by the end of 300, aims to reach the capacity to meet half of its current energy needs from solar power plants with these environmentally friendly investments.
