The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has confirmed that 5 children, 10 of them under the age of 6, have died in the country since September due to Strep A infection.

UKHSA, warning families to be careful against infection, pointed out that the incidence of the disease is higher than in previous years.

 What Is Strep A?

The bacterium called Strep A is known to settle in people's throat and skin, often causing colds and sore throats from time to time.

Bacteria that cause redness and skin infection in some parts of the body can lead to serious complications and death in some cases.

How Is Strep A Bacteria Transmitted?

The disease-causing bacteria can live on the hands or throat for long enough to spread easily between people through sneezing, coughing, and close contact.

What Are the Symptoms of Strep A Bacteria?

According to the news of BBC Turkish, infection caused by Group A Strep bacteria is normally mild with symptoms of sore throat and skin infections. It can also be easily treated with antibiotics.

But Strep A bacteria can also be caused by some other, more serious illnesses.

One of these is scarlet disease, which mostly affects children. Antibiotics are needed for this disease.

What Is Scarlet Disease?

Scarlet fever, a contagious disease that should be reported to public health authorities, can thus be treated quickly and epidemics can be brought under control.

Along with the rash, it causes flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat and swelling of the neck glands.

Redness is more difficult to detect on darker skin. However, it gives a rough surface feel.

In some people who have had scarlet fever, the tongue may have an appearance called a strawberry tongue. The tongue is covered with a white pus. With the disappearance of the inflammation, the tongue acquires a red dotted appearance.

Is Strep A Dangerous?

Although rare, Strep A can cause a group A streptococcal infection known as iGAS.

This could have a fatal outcome.

This disease is experienced when bacteria pass to the immune system. If you are already sick or under treatment for diseases such as cancer, it can affect your immune system.

The disease has symptoms such as high fever over 38 degrees and severe muscle pains.

Immediate, early medical attention is essential.

UKHSA warned people to apply to health units if they have unexplained vomiting and diarrhea in addition to the above symptoms.

You should talk to your doctor if your child has any symptoms that could be caused by Strep A.

It is also very important to indicate whether you have been in contact with someone who has Strep A.
