TAV Airports submitted the best bid in the tender held for the capacity development of Esenboğa Airport and the right to operate it covering the years 2025-2050. TAV Airports, as well as Cengiz Construction and Limak Construction-Limak Energy partnership participated in the tender, which was held at the General Directorate of DHMI in Ankara today. In the auction section, where TAV and Cengiz İnşaat stayed, the final bid was determined at the end of five rounds.

After the completion of the official processes and the approval of the tender result, the contract will be signed. TAV currently holds the operating rights of Esenboğa Airport until May 2025. As a result of the tender, the operational period of TAV was extended until May 2050.

TAV Airports Chief Executive Officer Serkan Kaptan said, “We have been successfully operating the Capital Esenboğa Airport since 2006. In this process, we have quadrupled the passenger traffic, and we continue to work in cooperation with our stakeholders, especially to increase the number of direct flights abroad. In addition to being the center of international relations and politics, Ankara has the distinction of being a tourist attraction with its cultural richness in the region and a transportation hub for Anatolia. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport, we would like to thank all our stakeholders, especially DHMI and SHGM, who have made Turkey one of the world's leading countries in aviation in the last 20 years.”

TAV Airports will carry out major investments on the air side, including a new runway, air traffic control tower and cargo service units at the first stage. The first phase investments, which will start in 2023, will be completed within three years. The second phase investments, including terminal expansion, will be completed by 2040 at the latest, depending on the passenger growth rate.

In addition, TAV Airports Holding will undertake the investment in solar panels with a capacity of 5 megawatts in line with its sustainability policies. The planned investment throughout the project will be approximately 300 million Euros.

Ankara Esenboğa was named “Europe's best airport” by the Airports Council International (ACI) in 2009. In 2020, it ranked first in its category at the ACI Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards. In 2014, Esenboğa became Turkey's first carbon-neutral airport with a 3+ level certificate within the framework of the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation Program, thanks to its work in the field of energy efficiency.
