Within the scope of the “Children and Youth Financial Support Program for 2021”, Turkey's first sensory integration-based in-water therapy pool was launched with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency, in partnership with the Bağcılar District Governorate, Bağcılar Municipality and Medipol University.

The launch program organized at the swimming pool in Kazım Karabekir District, which has been converted into an obstacle-free pool; Bağcılar District Governor Abdullah Uçgun, Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir, AK Party District President Rüstem Tüysüz and their families with disabilities attended.

Stating that the pool will contribute to the development of the disabled, Uçgun said, “Our disabled people should be with us in every aspect of life. In this, we have an important role to play. This pool is a product of such thinking. Having them in all areas of life will make them feel psychologically comfortable, and we will be peaceful as a society.”

Saying that they are the municipality of firsts, Özdemir said, “Our pool, which we launched today, is a first in Turkey. Of course, pools that include therapy for the disabled have been built before, but we have undertaken such a project for the first time in terms of sensory integration. It is good for our district," he said.

To all disabled people in the age group of 2 – 60 by specialist occupational therapists and physiotherapists; sensory integration training, in-water therapy, exercise and free swimming training will be given. In addition to the treatment service, talented disabled people will be trained as licensed swimmers to prepare for the Paralympic competitions.

During the therapy period, which is determined as 30 minutes, there are floating water balls, basketball hoop sets, football goal sets and many similar materials in order to make the pool safe and fun for children. With the right method, neurodevelopmental disorders will be greatly improved, especially for autism and intellectual disability groups.

In the specially designed pool; There are different features such as light and sound materials that support the visual and auditory systems of the disabled, a gradually deepening in-pool platform system, a therapy area for children who are afraid of water, materials that will increase physical capacity such as in-water bicycles and treadmills.
