The first two of the 18 trains ordered by the Porto metro to China Railway Rolling Stock Corp (CRRC) Tangshan were set off by sea towards Portugal. The trains in question were loaded onto a ship departing from the port of Tianjin in northern China, the Chinese Customs Department reported.

The notice states that this shipment is the first Chinese-made wagons exported to the European Union. In the meantime, it is also noted that the delivery date has been delayed considerably due to the COVID-19 outbreak. President of CRRC Tangshan, Zhou Junnian, announced that due to the negative impact of the epidemic, the production of the first train started only in November 2021, and they were completed in eight months by working quickly. When the contract worth 49,57 million euros was signed in January 2020, it was planned that one or two trains would be delivered in 2021 and the rest in 2023.

The Chinese manufacturer company reported that each train has a maximum capacity of 346 trips and can reach a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. These trains will serve on two unfinished lines in the city of Porto.

On the other hand, Porto authorities introduce CRRC Tangshan as a Chinese company with a long history and experience in the production of trains and especially high-speed trains and subway vehicles. Indeed, the aforementioned company is the world's largest rail system manufacturer, based in Beijing and employing 180 workers.
