Alstom expanded its production capacity in South Africa by purchasing assets for train body production from TMH Africa. Alstom supplied train bodies for its electric TRAXX locomotive project with Transnet before the company applied for a job recovery.

Through this acquisition, Alstom welcomed all 105 employees and retained its expertise in the country. Local production of train body linings represents an important milestone as Alstom expands its product portfolio and expands its geographic footprint in South Africa.

“We are pleased to diversify our production capacity and continue to deliver great value to our customers. Retaining the skills and knowledge to manufacture locomotive bodies locally is in line with our long-term growth strategy to introduce much needed cutting-edge transport solutions to the rest of the South African market. Alstom has over 150 years of experience in locomotive design and manufacture. Our locomotive portfolio is the broadest in the industry and covers most electric and hybrid markets worldwide, said Bernard Peille, Managing Director of Alstom South Africa.
