A representative flag ceremony was held in Konak Square as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of İzmir's liberation from occupation. At the ceremony, the cavalry units that revived the liberation of İzmir came in front of the İzmir Government House and a soldier representing Captain Şerafettin hoisted the Turkish flag to the Government House.
Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Aegean Army and Garrison Commander Lieutenant General Kemal Yeni, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality attended the flag ceremony held in Konak Square as part of the September 9 ceremonies. Tunç Soyer, AK Party Deputy Chairman Binali Yıldırım, CHP İzmir Deputies Kani Beko, Mahir Polat, Kamil Okyay Sındır, Sevda Erdan Kılıç, IYI Party İzmir Deputies Aytun Çıray, Musavat Dervişoğlu, AKP İzmir MPs Atilla Kaya, Hamza Dağ, MHP Provincial Chairman Veysel Şahin , headmen, representatives of political parties, public institutions, universities and non-governmental organizations attended. The cavalry units that came to Konak Square once again revived the historical scene symbolizing the liberation of the city and hoisted the Turkish Flag to the post of the Government House among the applause of the people of Izmir.
