Recommendations Against Separation Anxiety in Children

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Müjde Yahşi gave important information about the subject. School is the first place in a child's life where individualization and socialization occur. For the first time, the child stays away from school and mother for a long time and stays with different people. Naturally, this first separation may cause some anxiety in the child and this anxiety is quite normal, but if the child's anxiety still persists after a certain period of time, if it becomes more severe, if the anxiety is accompanied by physical complaints, we may suspect Separation Anxiety Disorder in the child.

My important warnings to families to protect their children from Separation Anxiety Disorder are as follows:

1-) Before the age of 3, the child needs the mother, not the school.

2-) The child, who does not leave the diaper, pacifier and parent's room, has difficulty in separating from the mother. What we call school phobia is the fact that the child cannot separate from the mother.

3-) Before the school's facilities, look at the teacher's license, experience, equipment, compassionate attitude and trust.

4-) The distribution of boys and girls in the class size should be proportional because the phallic period (3-6 years) is critical for the development of sexual identity.

5-) If possible, let the father (or father figure) leave the child to school, not the mother, until the child gets used to the school.

6-) Rely on the teacher when you leave your crying child, or do not try to leave your child to the teacher you do not trust.

7-) Do not kiss and hug the foreign country like good luck, and do not waste any time trying to persuade.

8-) Do not throw the child into the lap of the teacher without getting used to the school and the teacher by saying that he cries, cries, and shuts up.

9-) Do not put your brother, cousin, friend in the same class just because they get used to school easily.

10-) Regulate the child's emotions by making stories, games and puppet rituals until they get used to school.
