Istiklal Exhibition Hosted 100 Thousand Visitors in a Year

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, the most comprehensive exhibition on the National Struggle, "Independence in the 100th Anniversary of the Great Victory" exhibition closed. The exhibition, which opened its doors on August 30 Victory Day last year, said goodbye to Izmir on the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the city. The exhibition hosted over 100 thousand visitors in a year.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, participated in the closing of Istiklal on the 100th Anniversary of the Great Victory, which is the most comprehensive exhibition on the National Struggle and describes the struggle of the Turkish nation with nearly a thousand documents, photographs, films and objects. At the closing ceremony of the exhibition, which was opened at Kültürpark Atlas Pavilion on August 30 Victory Day last year with the cooperation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, İşbank and İş Sanat, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, İşbank Chairman of the Board Adnan Bali, İşbank General Manager Hakan Aran, BASISEN Chairman of the Board Metin Tiryakioğlu, the curator of the exhibition İzzettin Çalışlar, İşbank Board members and Metropolitan Municipality bureaucrats were also present.

The Independence Exhibition was further enriched in İzmir and opened with the title of “Independence Exhibition Towards the 100th Anniversary of the Great Victory” and hosted its visitors for a year.

“I see it for the first time”

Speaking at the closing of the exhibition, curator İzzettin Çalışlar stated that he encountered a first in his professional life and said, “I see a president both opening and closing the exhibition. What makes this exhibition different is that it contains documents and objects that have never been found. It is the archive left from my grandfather (General İzzettin Çalışlar)".

The exhibition hosted over 100 thousand visitors

The exhibition, which was prepared by making use of many domestic and foreign archives and collections, included military objects, diaries, notes, maps prepared during the war, and written documents such as the front orders of the command echelons, as well as many photographs and video footage. The texts were supported by screens and projections. The exhibition has hosted over 100 thousand visitors in İzmir alone so far.
