The 6th Traditional İsmet Atlı Karakucak Wrestling, organized by the Adana Metropolitan Municipality on behalf of the World and Olympic Champion wrestler, Adanalı İsmet Atlı, was held in the Beneficial District of Kozan district.
Speaking at the opening, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar mentioned the importance of wrestling for the Turkish Nation. Karalar said, “We provide sports training to over 20 thousand young people in many branches, but wrestling has a very special place in our society. Wrestling is our ancestral sport that made the world say 'strong like a Turk'. I respectfully commemorate all our champions who raised our glorious flag. The late İsmet Atlı is one of our legendary wrestlers. We want to organize these wrestling matches every year and keep our ancestral sport alive and developing. The Founder of the Republic of Turkey, Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, expressed the importance of sports by saying 'A sound mind resides in a healthy body'. Sport is also a phenomenon that brings together many people, brings them together and strengthens social ties. I wish success to all our athletes. I would like to emphasize once again the importance of being athletes who comply with the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 'I like the smart, agile and at the same time moral athlete'.
At the end of the wrestling, Ali Bönceoğlu became Başpehlivan, Halil Hopur came second, İsa Göçen and Adem Uzun third. A total of 26 thousand liras were awarded to the top wrestlers, while a total of 270 thousand liras were awarded in wrestling.
