Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi (born March 26, 1940) is an American politician and speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
Pelosi, who was the leader of the minority Democrats in the House of Representatives until 2007, became the first woman to be elected to this position in the US history by winning the vote in the House of Representatives as a result of the Democratic Party gaining the majority in the House of Representatives in the November 2006 midterm elections. Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the House from January 4, 2007 to January 5, 2011, is the woman who has reached the highest level of government in the history of the United States. She also holds the privilege of being the first Californian and the first Italian-American ever elected to the position of Speaker of the House.
On August 2, 2022, Pelosi became the first senior US government official to visit Taiwan in 25 years.
